Sunday of Orthodoxy celebrated in Houston, Texas

The Sunday of Orthodoxy reminds us of the triumph of the Orthodox faith over all heresies of all times and from everywhere. The Scriptural reading for this day clearly states that God revealed our faith to our forefathers and that they struggled to prepare the way for the Incarnation of God and the continuation of His salvific work by His Church in the Holy Spirit. We as children of God and loving members of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church celebrate our faith on the first Sunday of Great Lent, bringing testimony to the world and strengthening one another in mutual love, as we make our spiritual journey toward the Resurrections of Christ.

The community of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God in Houston, Texas got together in prayer on Sunday morning and thanked God for the faith we received; we reaffirmed our dedication and desire to live according to the teachings and traditions of the Orthodox Church. In the evening, at the setting of the sun, we, along with all other Orthodox parishes in Houston area, went to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral and celebrated Vespers. The priests as well as the faithful carried icons in procession and chanted hymns reflecting the theological meaning of the celebration.
