The day dedicated to honoring the Holy Hierarch Nicholas, December 6, is an especial celebration for the faithful of Ss. Constantine and Helen Cathedral of Chicago, since St. Nicholas is the spiritual protector of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae. The Divine Liturgy was served in the morning by His Eminence Nicolae and the Cathedral’s clergy. Prayers and thanksgiving were offered for all of the gifts poured out upon His Eminence and the priests and faithful of our Metropolia, followed by prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of King Michael I of Romania.
In the word of instruction, His Eminence spoke about the life and mission of the Holy Hierarch Nicholas, the defender of the true faith, the image of meekness through his deeds of mercy, an example of Christian living and service in the Church for hierarchs, priests, deacons, and the faithful. His Eminence remembered with sadness the falling asleep in the Lord of King Michael I of Romania and presented a short sketch of his life.
In the evening a Thanksgiving Service (Te Deum) was performed for all those that bear the name of the Holy Hierarch Nicolae. Father John Downie, in visit to Chicago, congratulated His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicolae on behalf of those present. A festive meal brought the day of celebrations to a close for the community of Ss. Constantine and Helen Cathedral in Chicago.
