The American journey of the Coalition for Family began in Chicago by visiting the Center of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolia of the Americas and Ss. Constantine and Helen Cathedral. Thus Friday, August 25, the President of the Coalition for Family, Mr. Mihai Gheorghiu and the Media Director, Mr. Cătălin Vasile, accompanied by Mr. Steven Bonica from Chicago, met His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae. The two representatives of the Coalition have recalled the efforts made in recent weeks, the hope that the law for the convocation of the referendum will soon be approved by the Senate of Romania, the campaign to mobilize Romanian citizens to vote for the change of Article 48, which defines the family in the Romanian Constitution having in mind the prospect of organizing the referendum this autumn. The new wording should state that "The family is founded on the freely consented marriage between a man and a woman."
HE Metropolitan Nicholas assured the Coalition for Family representatives of the support of the Metropolia for this project by informing parishioners from US and Canada about the importance of this referendum for defending the Christian family, but also by mobilizing them to participate in the vote. The talks also referred to the general situation in Romania regarding the referendum, the reactions of the institutions and the press.
On Sunday, August 27, the two representatives of the Coalition for Family attended the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral performed by Metropolitan Nicolae and the Cathedral priests. Thus, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, they could directly address the faithful and answer the questions.
