St. Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church in Austin, Texas, hosted a memorable event on December 1, 2024, marking Romania’s National Day in a very special way. Beginning at 5:00 PM, over 400 community members and guests gathered to participate in an extraordinary concert of carols, performed by the renowned Tronos Psaltic Group of the Romanian Patriarchate, led by Archdeacon Mihail Bucă.
A Unique Concert for Austin, Texas, and America
The concert, held in the presence of His Eminence Nicolae, the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of the Americas, was a celebration of Romanian traditions and culture. The Tronos Group offered a concert lasting over two hours, including traditional Romanian carols, as well as pieces performed in English, Serbian, Greek, and Ukrainian. Each song conveyed a profound message, captivating the hearts of those present and evoking childhood nostalgia. Father Mihail Bucă encouraged the participants to keep the tradition of caroling alive, urging them to carry the joy of the Nativity further, into their homes.
A Miracle in Our Midst
The central moment of the evening was the presence of the Miracle-Working and Myrrh-Giving Icon, a copy of the one from the Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos, brought from Hawaii by His Grace James of Sonora. It gushed myrrh right during the concert, a sign of blessing that deeply moved the entire audience.
“Silent Auction” and Festive Meal
As part of the event, the community also organized a “Silent Auction”, with the aim of raising funds for the construction of the new church. Participation was generous, demonstrating solidarity and support for this important project. The evening ended with a festive meal, lovingly prepared by the church ladies. Traditional Romanian dishes crowned the festive atmosphere, providing an opportunity for communion and joy for all those present.
Words of encouragement and gratitude
Metropolitan Nicolae gave a word of blessing and encouragement, congratulating the community for the unity and special efforts made in this holy work. “We give glory to God for everything and we pray that we may all be healthy and that there may be peace among us,” concluded His Eminence.
This event will remain forever in the hearts of the participants, being a true testimony of faith and love for our traditions. We thank all those who contributed to the organization and success of this moment of grace and joy!
Glory to God for everything!
