The Sunday of Orthodoxy was also celebrated in a special manner for yet another year in Chicago. At Ss. Constantine and Helen Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by the Cathedral’s clergy. After the Divine Liturgy, the children from the Sunday School of the Cathedral organized a procession with the holy icons starting from the church, and finishing in the social hall of the Cathedral, where they sang Lenten hymns.
In the evening, clergy and Orthodox faithful from the Chicago area met at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Des Plaines, IL for Pan-Orthodox Vespers. Organized by the Chicago Orthodox Clergy Association, the Vespers service was a moment of true Orthodox fellowship. Two hierarchs, 40 priests and deacons and over 400 faithful from the Chicago area prayed together on this holy day. The clergy and several faithful of the Ss. Constantine and Helen Cathedralparticipated in this pan-Orthodox Vespers. The homilist for the evening was Bishop John of the Antiochian Christian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America, Diocese of Worcester and New England.
At the end of the Vespers service, the Synodicon of Orthodoxy, the common confession of the right faith, was read. A procession of the holy icons concluded this Chicago Pan-Orthodox Vespers service.
